Sure. Proper athletic conditioning involves minicycles (weekly) mesocycles
(monthly) , macrocycles (seasonal), and megacycles (yearly//career). These
are cycles of hard work, recovery, rebound and supercompensation. In order to
design an appropriate conditioning protocol for your horse you'll want to
know the animal's recovery cycle--in racehorses, body weight recovery is an
excellent indicator. When the horse is recovered, though, new hard exercise
must be applied in order to take advantage of supercompensation and move the
animal forward as an athlete. Simply giving "time off" just means a
deconditioning period where the animal loses fitness.
