Excuse me while I gloat. I took my 11yo daughter to her first LD at Ft
Gordon, Ga this weekend. She had been telling me she could do 25 miles and I
was kind of skeptical but told her if she was serious that I would take her.
She then started riding nearly everyday around where we live. I talked to
her about the starts, that we didn't know how her little Arab would act with
all the excitement but she wanted to run with everyone else. Well, we went,
she was great! Her sadddle was loose and almost lost her saddle pad out from
under the saddle so it had to be fixed shortly after starting. Later her
horse spooked and my daughter tumbled off but brushed herself off and jumped
back on and rode off. At the vet check the P&R person wondered aloud if the
horse was still alive as it's heart was barely beating. She had had some
trouble controlling her horse with her eggbutt snaffle so she changed bits at
the vet check...her own idea...and had a much better 2d loop. We did the
10mile loop in 46 minutes. Then at the end we jumped off the horses, pulled
the saddles and went to the P&R at 60bpm (my horse wasn't though). She was
7th overall, first junior, 5th BC! Now there will be some talk about this
ride having a problem because of trail markers missing but even with that,
this little girl and her little Arab did a wonderful job! Her fathers horse
was a little frazzled from carrying such a heavy load and trying to keep up
with his pasture buddy and ended up 15th. I just thought that the whole
world should hear about how well my daughter did.
Thanks for indulging me,
A Proud Daddy!!
