Please understand that the new horse registration fee is only one time =
per the the registration of each new endurance horse. AERC for that =
$10 fee will keep the records on that horse forever. =20
Many people are now training and selling endurance horses for a profit. =
I have been in the office when one member called to register five =
horses in one day. We, the AERC board, would simply like to pass on to =
those horse sellers the costs of our keeping the records on those =
horses.
You will not be charged for any horse you have registered with AERC as =
of December 1, 1997. Also, after that please remember that it is a one =
time fee per horse, not an annual fee. If you have the same one, two or =
three horses that you ride year after year, you will not pay this fee. =
You will only pay it one time when you purchase and begin competing a =
new horse.
If you still have questions or are unhappy about this, I would very =
much like to hear from you. Please also remember, that AERC is still =
trying to get back on its feet after a few very bad financial years. =
Even though we now are making a profit, we still have enormous computer =
software and hardware expense which we are paying off. Due to =
electrical problems, we are forced to move the office and this will be =
another huge expense. =20
We really appreciate your support and I welcome your comments on any of =
this. I know that MaryAnne Bobrow, our new executive director, will =
also welcome hearing from you.

Subject: AERC Horse Reg Fees
I agree with Terry that our yearly dues should include keeping =
track of
our horse's mileage. I always thought one of the founding purposes for =
AERC
to track mileage for it's members and their horses. I think this is a =
basic
service that AERC should provide to all members without charging an =
extra
fee. =20
Perhaps I wouldn't feel so strongly on this issue if AERC was in =
dire
financial straights but according to the minutes of the last board =
meeting it
doesn't appear to be the case (AERC is currently showing a profit of =
over
$33,000.00 [p. 11 of AERC News - September] and especially since AERC =
can
afford to hire a new executive director at a much higher salary rate =
than the
previous director). Yet, at this same board meeting, the AERC directors =
felt
the need to implement a new fee to it's general membership. By the way,
there were several motions on the table for an increase in membership =
dues -
some that were barely defeated!!
As Terry suggested, why not try other ways to generate money like =
pro
rated dues for generating new memberships and why not have a membership
catagory at a much lower rate for people that do not ride but want to =
support
this sport? =20

Louise,
I am really ticked because I would like to know why I am paying =
dues to
an organization thats purpose is supposed to keep track of points and
mileage. To me this is another way to raise dues!!! Isn't it amazing =
that
AERC has an money to hire a new executive director at $14,000 more a =
year
than the previous director and they can donate $2,000 to the North =
American
Championship race that effects only a small percentage of AERC =
members!!!
Yet they nickle and dime the general membership to register horse AERC =
#s.
I wish more people would pay attention to the minutes at board meetings =
and
see what's going on. =20
