Yup. Except the corns, been there / done that.
Magnum feet were terrible. My farrier and I have worked
long and hard on keeping shoes on him. I should have
stock in Equilox. This winter we find out if we have
a solution.
I made a mistake last year by feeding rice bran and
not balancing it with straight alfalfa pellets for
the Ca+ / P. So I have fixed that part of my feeding
schedule. I have also started balancing straight oats
with rolled corn. (Full compliment of amino acids).
But to keep my farrier, I put the bay beastie on
Dynamite. I don't sell it (Steph does!), but I
am absolutely amazed at the difference in his feet.
He's on the high power vitamins (lots of Vit A) and
a bit of the complete feed and of course the biotin
hoof supplement.
He is growing hoof like an Arab now! And nice foot
too. Enough so that I am thinking of putting shock
tamers on him next spring to help reduce the impact
on his ex-race horse joints. Something I never would
have considered before because pads increase lost
shoes. And he can lose shoes with the best of them.
Luke, I don't know if you can get Dynamite where you
are, but if you can it's worth it.
