My mare does this all the time, even with her pasture buddy; I think she
thinks it's a game, but it's not always received as one, and it's
certainly annoying. The only cure I've found would be annoying too, over
many miles, but works: I ride with a crop, held facing forward parallel
to her neck, on the side where the horse is. A gentle tap a time or two
reminds her, and from then on she's ok.
