The horse does need to know who is in charge, and for the human to be in charge, (whether the human thinks they are horse or not) the horse must submit to the human. Here is an interesting link to an aticle about "pecking order" or "herd hierarcy or dynamics" that is very intersting. It is written by Andrew McLean, a horse trainerand animal behaiour scholar from Austraila. His persepctive is very interesting and a worthwhile read. Check him out!
