Re: [RC] Bitting question - Thanks TOO! - Barbara McCrary
Heavens, yes! I use a Myler high-port
curb on my horse and my husband is experimenting with a side-pull on his.
We once rode two horses that always competed in a sidepull. We've
also, in the past, used Sleister hackamore bits. We use whatever the horse
responds to the best, the less the better. I'd love to ride every horse in
a side-pull, because it's so easy to feed and water them along the trail, but
not all horses respond safely to one. I think it depends on the individual
horse's response to whatever you are trying to use. The snaffle is a great
training tool, however. I'm not a skilled horse trainer, but it seems to
me, watching those who are, that a snaffle, properly used, is the best way to
start a horse and get him responding to you. Whether you continue using it is up
to you and your horse.
