I do have one hard-mouthed old fellow who had 4-H-ers saw on his mouth for several years who simply ignores it--and I ride him in a Hartwell pelham. But he's gotten now so that he goes mostly on a loose rein, so I'd wager I could go back to the French-mouth snaffle with him again, too.
