Re: [RC] Mustang body type - Laney HumphreyIf you ride her carefully, she'll do just fine! Heavier bodied horses have more trouble cooling than lighter horses since they have more mass relative to skin area. Arabians also benefit from an incredible network of surface capillaries and veins that help them cool. My somewhat heavy bodied Spanish Mustang does just fine on 50s, especially in the cooler, drier west, but when the weather is hot & humid, I have to be more careful since he doesn't have the efficient cooling capacity of his arab buddies.Have fun and good luck! My question is concerning the overall body types of the mustangs you have competed on or seen during rides. Little Horse has some failry large bone structure (she is out of the Green River area of Wyoming-Percheron influences) and would be considered a thick bodied horse compared to an Arabain. No question she is tough. I would hope to do at least some 30 mile endurance rides on her eventually, I am not looking to be highly competetive, just enjoy the ride and have her remain sound and out of trouble. So...what do you think? Martina =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Ridecamp is a service of Endurance Net, http://www.endurance.net.
