But I've been wondering if it is better for him not to drink the standing water. If I *ever* have to break down and drink water on a trail you can bet I'll drink from a mud hole over a "beautiful clear running stream". It only takes seeing one dead bloted dog laying in a stream to realize that at least at a mudhole you can figure it's rain water and look around for what might have run off into it. With a stream you have no idea who's doing what upstream. :-P My horse also likes the water from mudholes that are out in the sun if it isn't too hot. That makes sense. When I did a run and somebody handed me ice water in a cup I *really* wished it was tepid.
