[RC] Lack of Fresh Drinking Water on training rides. - kazevedo

Hi all,

I always let my horse drink from puddles when he wants to (which is often.. I think he actually PREFERS standing, murky, warm water over cool running water) because there isn't a lot of fresh/running water on the trails we take. But I've been wondering if it is better for him not to drink the standing water. What do you guys think, on a cool to moderately warm day when he's been exercising at a pretty good clip (only walking up or down steep hills- otherwise trotting) for, say, 1.5-2 hours, is it better to let him drink from standing puddles (that might have dangerous bacteria) or keep him from drinking until we return home?

Thanks, and hoping all your conditioning is going great!

Katie
