Re: [RC] Hi-Tie system and head tossers - rackinfool
Hi Amy,
I too just got the hi tie system. I love it, so
much easier than the corrals.
The first problem I ran into with my set up is
that the way I had it mounted, which is on a piece of Aluminum Tubing,
channeled at the top and bottom, to give extra strength as opposed to directly
attaching to the trailer.
anyhoo, it is mounted above the trailer which
made the bungee too short. So the first outing, both horses had to "grab and
snatch" their food. This caused galling under the jaw from the halter on both
sides of the jaw bone.
So I bought about a 10 inch bungee with a ring
at one end and snap on the other. This solved that problem now the horses eat
with ease and lay down.
I have watched both my boys get the thing
around their head, it never will loop completely around the neck, just kinda one
side. Their instinct is to get untangled, and they have never had any times that
I was fearful of them getting it completely looped around the neck. In fact I
think it would be impossible.
It takes them a couple of times to get used to
the restraint, but within a couple of days they seem to have it down to a
science. I don't see a worry for you, but maybe someone else has had the
concern of yours and can give you another opinion.
I sure do like them, Wish I had gotten them
before spending the money on the portable corrals.
Just bought the hi-tie system and I love the concept of it. I have a
gelding who does that classic arabian head toss (up and around).I'm concerned
he'll do the toss and get the bungee wrapped around his neck. Does anyone have
any suggestions for teaching this guy to deal with this type of restraint and
how to unravel himself if he gets tangled. I'm really leary about using it
with this particular horse. He will stand tied to a short lead without any
problems.
Unfortunately, there are not too many people on the east coast using this
system so my resources are limited.
Thanks,
Amy
