[RC] Girth for sports saddle-Paul - Amy CieriHey Paul,
Had this slipping and pit rubbing problem with my short coupled gelding. Bought the center fire rigging from Sport Tack and the problem was solved. It moves the position of the girth back out of the horse's pits and comes with a nice mohair girth . I had used neoprene in the past and found that they build up heat under there and can harbor bacteria. With the neoprene I had a lot of crusty skin after 100 mile rides but nothing with the mohair. I think the mohair breathes better, being that it is a natural fiber. I've had this system for about 3 years now and the girth is still in great shape. The only thing about it is that a replacement girth is about 55 bucks from Sport Tack. I'd love to find it cheaper somewhere else but have been unsuccessful. I bought a similar western mohair girth for 24.00 from a local tack store and can't understand why theirs is so expensive to replace. The good thing is that the girth holds up well to heavy usage.
Good luck in getting your partner more comfortable.
