Re: [RC] Bylaws Ammendent - Heidi SmithBut how does the AERC tell whether a member is a citizen, a resident alien, an illegal alien or a French guy on vacation in the US? My point is, this amendment is unnecessary because there is no check in place...only a US or Canadian address. So the rule should only be something like: "A Regular Member is a person that has a valid US or Canadian mailing address and has coughed up the necessary membership fees." So why vote on something that isn't and can't be enforced? I personally think the above is better. Rather than having us all provide passports or birth certificates or the I-9 requirements or whatever. April, even though proof of residency status is not necessary at this time and no "enforcement" plans are in place, it IS necessary simply because if it is NOT changed, then the votes of these people can be challenged by anyone who chooses to do so, and rightfully so. Furthermore, some people ARE honest, and would simply not vote, knowing they could not "legally" do so. Why penalize the honest ones?
