Re: [RC] Ride time v. Elapsed Time - Jim HollandHmmmm...thought I did suggest it. I discussed it with Mike Maul and Randy Eiland at the Chattanooga Convention when I was trying to find out why data on ride statistics and horse deaths was not available for our members and number crunchers...that's where I got the information I posted....and from a few other people, like Bob Morris. No one seemed to know why it was on the sanction form....I thought it was kinda strange to put it there in the first place. How else should I "suggest" it? It's not exactly a secret that our data collection is inconsistent to say the least. Since collection of consistent and accurate data is essential in order to find better methods of protecting our horses, perhaps a review of ALL our forms would be worthwhile to make sure questions are on the right form, that they are going to the appropriate people and are filled out properly....ANY incomplete form should be returned....otherwise, why ask for the info? It's the way the rest of the world works...don't fill out the form, it doesn't get processed. Total hold time, loop length, etc would be easy to include with ride results. Much easier to do with results than on the sanction application form. Often ride managers aren't even sure of loop length, hold time, etc when they submit sanction applications. But when it's all over - and fresh in our minds (what's left of them) it would be simple to do. I encourage you to send this suggestion to AERC - it's very practical. Steph -- Richard T.
