My now 15 yr old arab mare, Ember, had stifle locking problems between the
ages of 1 yr and 5yrs.  My vet gave me this advise - no lunging, no being
confined to a stall, and (this is his exact phrase) take her out and ride
the piss out her!   The conditioning definitely worked as the stifles have
never locked since.
