Re: [RC] pouring down cold! O'Boy - Jim Simpson

A word of caution.  Every winter there are more than a few reports of barn fires caused by electric buckets.  In most cases the horses are not able to be gotten out of the barn due to smoke inhalation, even if people were able to back in.  Look carefully at what you purchase.  Some are better than others.  The danger come when the buckets are empty and over heat.  Most of use in the frozen north just put up with the old indestructible black fortex bucket and a hammer and keep the heated water tank outside.  A covered wooden box that is insulated works great over the outside tanks to keep the water heated and conserve electricity.

Hi Mary, nothing beats electric buckets----
No more banging ice out of buckets and
having freezing hands-----All our horses
have them here----it was expensive to buy
them all at once ,but worth it....
