[RC] WEG Questions - Rides 2 Far
> MAS is Malaysia,
Is it Dato Kamaruddin Abdul Ghani? If so, he was the FEI top ranking
rider for 2001. He's a 57 year old polo player and former show jumper
and amateur jockey who is the president of a large construction company
and on the board of directors of several other companies. He started
endurance in 1998.
According to his profile in Endurance World he went to Australia and
hooked up with Tony Marshall, then a Frenchman Jack Begaud. I'm just
skimming down the article, but in general, he's a very good horseman who
is also a very busy businessman. He buys horses all over, leaves them for
other people to train, then flies in for races where he seems to be a
good jockey for the ride itself.
A quote from the article:
"To enable him to compete at so many international rides, he has a
personal assistant who goes ahead of him to organize everything. "I
don't have to worry; I just fly in and fly out" says Kamaruddin. Back in
Malaysia he finds little time to ride."

It's just a different world I guess. Says he works out at gyms, runs,
bikes, etc. to stay in shape while in the corporate environment.
Here's just short quotes of horses bought:
"Initially, Kamaruddin decided to have horses bassed in Australia with
Marshall. Kamaruddin's first purchase in Australia was Inshallah Select.
"The three other Australian horses that Marshall has since purchased for
Kamaruddin are Bata Park Bastien and Bara Park Billy who are now both in
France. The third, Bara Park Benjamin remains training with Mashall.
"He rode Gusty l'Aigoual whom he decided to buy from owner/breeder
Monsieur Gusty" Later he purchased Elsi de l'Aigoual from Gusty These
two remain in training with Gusty.
"Kamaruddin then sought out Begaud. "Dato approached me about buying
some horses" say Begaud. At that time I only had young horses so he took
a 50% share in three."
"Kamaruddin had established a training base in Australia and France.
Since seriously competing in Europe, France has become Kamaruddin's
second home and he has a house in Foix.
"Kamaruddin's latest purchase was Degma who remains in training with
former owner Dominic Payen.
"Kamaruddin's principal aim is success at teh World Equestrian Games and
he is very confident. "I have three top horses all waiting to run"
