Re: [RC] The Arabian Breed; how *big* is BIG? - Bette Lamore
There is a VERY rational explanation, Susan
Your patient might have been using the ARABIAN measuring stick. So many
Arabian owners do that NO ONE believed that Halynov was 16.2 until they
saw him for themselves!
Funny thing... I told Jeff Wonnell that he was 16.1 hands before he saw
him and then Jeff called me after he had him for a week. He called me a
liar--- said he wasn't 16.1! I told him I'd stuck him MANY times to
which he replied-- "He's 16.2!" I replied that he didn't believe me at
16.1 so why should I tell anyone he was 16.2! He retorted "Nobody is
going to believe you at 16.1 either so you might as well tell the truth
and then people will figure he's 15.3 or so!!" :-)
IF the gelding IS an honest 17h, I'd like to know who his sire is. I've
always been told that Halynov was the tallest Arabian in the world, and
there might be 2 others that matched his height (but I was told that
they were not as typey).
If he was a mutant, I wonder what this gelding must be??!! ;-)

Other Arab people (I admit...they mostly show

is small...so, it never dawned on me that anyone
pointed a finger at BIG arabs!
I've got a patient who told me of a registered pure
Arabian gelding she sold to an elderly gentleman. The
horse grew too big for the man and he may want to sell
him.
"How big is he now?" asks I.
"17 hands" says she!
17 HANDS!!!!! Is that possible?
"How much do you think he'll want for him?" I querred.
"I'd imagine around $300 or $400."
!!!!!!!
I checked her chart to see what meds she was on!
I'll let you know how this comes out. I'm just
curious if any of you have ever seen or known of a 17
hand pure Arab.
