Eventers use a protective vest designed for equestrians, I don't know how well they would do to support your back after an injury.  They're designed to prevent injuries.  Stateline Tack sells them.

    Subject: [RC] Backs and Falls

About 10 years ago I fell off a horse after a rapid 180 degree shy and ruptured a disc in my lower back. I haven't ridden a lot for that and numerous other reasons, my mare preferred to be driven in harness so I drove and rode lightly. The disc healed well and this year I started riding 2 new horses, and even started enjoying an "endurance" pace again. Last week my gelding shied and bolted and I fell hard on my back, this time breaking a lumbar vertebrae. I want to continue to ride when this heals but I know I'll be fairly paranoid about falling hard again. Does anyone know if there are back braces/supports that help reduce back injuries in falls but still are flexible? I was lucky enough not to have any neuro damage. Was also really lucky to have gotten in the habit of wearing a helmet. I believe it saved my life, or at least spared me a serious head injury.
