I've just picked up on this thread, because I'm way, way behind in my mail.
If I'm repeating a prior suggestion, I apologise.


For those guys who battle with their horses in the first loop....have you
tried hunting?  Sometimes, with an over the top horse, a season's hunting is
all that is required to settle a youngster.  If you're worried about the
jumps, you can ride at the back with the hack.


If you tell the huntmaster that you or your horse is a novice, he'll very
often excuse any naughty behaviour, and peopel will look out for you.


Not that I've been brave enough to try this with Toc, mind...
