hungry horse
Just a note on feeding really starving horses.
If they are truly starving, the same rules as feeding starving people apply.
They cannot suddenly handle large amounts of food, especially dry feed.
Must start with "soups". Really wet hay, alfalfa is fine, any kind of
soaked grain, beet pulp, etc. In cold weather warm food is good.
Gradually build up to as much as they will eat.
Suggest NOT putting on good pasture full time all at once, start with short
periods and keep adding time.
Of course, if the horse is just a little thin a short adjustment time may
work just fine.
