You've gotta out run them.  That's how endurance racing got started. That
ol' story about the 5 guys doing Tevis is just folklore. 10 mph will do
it.  That's why I've never bothered to condition a horse enough to go any
faster than that...gets me in the top 10 but not too many wins.
