Overheard a vet say "If you really wanna see some hoof growth, rub a
little ichthammol into that coronary band". Mentioned that to my farrier
and he suggested taking a toothbrush and rubbing a little absorbine in
the coronary band. He recommends Farrier's Formula for a feed additive,
but heck the price was so high I've decided to go the massage route and
am massaging just some plain ol' Vita Hoof into the coronary band hoping
for decent results. Kaboot has very slow growth and fortunately wears
his shoes pretty evenly. I can't change shoes more often than 6 weeks,
and if the schedule allows I stretch it to 7 just to get more growth.
I'd wonder about any comparison of results if you try different products
at different times of year. My old horse Isaiah could wear a set of shoes
10 weeks in Dec./Jan. and only 5 in June.
