Re: breeding for endurance

<Is that not the truth, $1500. for custom saddle and $1000 and up for the

Well, then perhaps we aren't the "norm"? We paid (or will have paid when
we are done) $6000 for our adorable stallion, $2300 for our "old" horse
trailer and $600 for the 1971 4 door crew cab, pea green Ford one ton that
pulls it (can't miss US!). :) Oh, and not one of our saddles cost us over
$400 used! :) Keep in mind, of course, that our "friends" (?) threw in two
of their "culls" with the deal... Malik's 1/2 brother (Mykal) and his 1/2
sister (Impulse) (that was the year that the price of hay about killed
us!!)... in the end, we may have the last laugh on them as Impulse's
crooked leg actually seems to be coming around and though she may never
make a "top" competitor status, we feel she will be well able to complete
many miles if brought along carefully (not to mention may produce some fine
foals for us someday if we decide to breed her) and his brother, Mykal, is
the sweetest little stallion at two that we may let him keep his jewels.
(He was a cull simply because they had no use for another colt at the time
and he was about 5 months old when we got him). Nothing perturbs him and I
can't wait until we can really start riding him (right now he gets the pony
saddle put on and gets "ponied" which he finds very entertaining)...so,
$6000 is a lot of money for even 3 horses for us and we didn't quibble over
the price. Later found out that they had started him off at $10,000.
Anyway, we ain't fancy here and never will be (bartering for a paint job on
the truck and trailer right now) but we love our horses and we're still
great friends with the folks we bought them from! :)
