Re: Re: KILLER HORSES
Dont know about the USA, but over here like very
where else Ayrabs and purpose bred oens at that are supposed to be the desired
ones to buy.
Some one carried out an informal bit of research
and the fact were that the majority of horses enterd for rides were arabs yet non arabs featuered highly in completes
and wins.
Over here we have had two horses which have
dominated at the 100 miler level in the last decade , one was a 16 hh
suffolk punch X Tb hunter and the suffolk predomionated , and the
other was a 14. 2 - 15 hh colored clyesdale x trotter cob . One of the highest
mileage grade one only horses over here is a ropbustly built welsh cob hes
still going strong and hes in his late teens or twentys. the Arabs of course
also did exceptionally well including some very light framed ones ( Egypitan
kahalifa who was a very consistent horse sprigs to mind).
Personally, and within reason, I dont think its the
horses type/pedigree/cost that matters its its guts and heart that counts and I
guess you can only test that by the suck it and see method!

Subject: RC: Re: KILLER HORSES
I have been watching this
thread with interest---does anybody have any guess-statistics as to how many
auction horses do NOT make the grade for every Cash that did?
Then, how about the same ratio for horses who were bred for endurance making
the grade, and those bred for it failing??

Come on, Carla - there are stories everywhere of
the rescued/cheap/abused (pick one) horse/dog/kid (pick one) that becomes a
winner/saves a life/does something extraordinary (pick one). If higher
prices don't predict a winner, lower prices don't either.
This
isn't about price (although price is an indicator of what is being talked
about). I think it is NOT a good idea for people to think that the
world is full of ugly ducklings that will become swans, livestock auction
horses that will become winners, underprivledged small town boys & girls
that become CEOs and lottery tickets that make instant
multi-millionaires. It's *possible* of course, but it's not likely and
it's unrealistic to present the Cash's of the world as an example of how
things are or could be.
