Re: RideCamp: Slow vs. Fast Twitch
I used to ride and will again after this foal, a walking horse that
could outrun TB's in a mile. It took several years of long easy trail
rides emphasizing the long loose fast walk. After several years she
could truck off an easy going 6 mph walk. This is not the running walk
- this is the walk. She could do a CTR at a walk!
She went on to be a decent endurance horse and I lay most of this on the
emphasis on the walk during early training.
She also did not cool as well as her AyyyyyyRab brethern at first. But
after about three years in endurance she was dropping like a rock just
like the Arabs.
I think it takes longer with non-Arabs, but I don't think that is
necessarly a drawback.
