Tevis for foreigners - help?

Hello 'new' campers!

I have some questions about the Tevis that I 
am asking on behalf of a friend whom I crew...

My friend was wondering how a Brit would go 
about getting a ride in the Tevis? She would 
want to have a go in 2000. She is currently 
aiming for the Under-21s European Championships 
in Germany with her long-listed mare so would be 
unable to do the Tevis this year.

In 2000 she would be 18 years old. She is an 
experienced endurance rider, having competed 
since she was 8. She has ridden numerous races 
and has had many wins. She has ridden in the 
European Championships before. This year 
alone, she won the Young Riders Trophy 1998 
(British Endurance) and also the Pegasus Trophy 
(1998 - British Endurance) for most points in 
Endurance Rides gained on more than one horse, 
open to both under 21s and adults! She is one 
tough girl! 

So. How should she proceed? What are her options? 
She would not be able to travel any of her horses 
to the US. Can she lease a horse? How would she 
qualify to enter? Can anyone help?
