A horse in this condition (in my opinion) should NOT be given a completion
award, let alone top 10. This would provide a definite incentive to keep
people from over-riding their horses. I was under the impression that AERC
judges were really strict about a horse's ability to continue and awarding
completions. Maybe a letter to the AERC judges committee is in order (??).
Unfortunately as endurance grows so do the number of people who participate
who aren't really "horsemen" (or women) -- and the horses suffer for it.
The sad part is that people who ride this way will be burning up another horse
within a year or two. The first one probably going to slaughter (oops, touchy
subject!).
