I'll try to make this endurance related -  While out conditioning, I too
noticed one of my dogs (male as a matter of fact) roll in something
disgusting.  This questions also appeared on a dog list I subscribe to.  This
is the response that was posted there:

Dogs roll in disgusting stuff because we just got done telling them not to eat
it.

Big ole tongue in cheek!!!
