They were most likely using the injectable cattle ivermectin as an oral horse
wormer, not the pour-on. Lots of folks do this, and it seems to be perfectly
effective. As for cost, it is cheaper than paste, but not much different in
cost from the liquid oral forms sold for horses--Eqvalan liquid and now its
cheaper competitor ProMectin.
