RE: Training for Endurance
April,
There are great archives for ridecamp. Check them out.
On the endurance home page, you'll find just the kind of
information you are looking for. I think the FAQ has the
training tips.
If you can do 10 miles without a long rest, five minutes
or so at most, and come back with a fresh horse, you are
ready to try the 25 mile ride. Recovery, which is your
key to the horse's condition, is based on heart rate.
Take the horse's rate prior to starting your ride.
It should be in the 30 to 40 beats per minute range.
Go for your ride. Come back, remove saddle and take the
pulse again. Now, it should be below 60 beats per minute.
Of course, all depends on how fast you ride and your cool
down time.
Rather than repeat a bunch of stuff here, check the archives
first, then come back with questions.
