Subject: adding beet pulp

Hi Susan, et al...
I have been giving my 14.1 + 730ish lb arab gelding approximately 1 pint (dry measurement) of beet pulp a day (in the morning) with 1+ flake timothy, 6 oz rolled oats, vitaimins, biotin.
I was thinking of adding another feeding of beet pulp (same measurement) at night.  Could I technically reduce my hay feeding? and is there such thing as TOO MUCH beet pulp? We haven't really been conditioning yet so the activity level is A LOT lower than spring/summer.
Thanks,
susie

I prefer to always free feed hay, so you can increase the beet pulp up to about 50% of the total ration, way more than you're feeding now, but still supply plenty of hay.  When he cant eat all the hay you're supplying, then you'll know when to back off.  Within reason, I don't think there is any such thing as too much beet pulp.  Don't go over 50% of the total ration and don't feed so much that it's lying around going sour.  Other than that, go for it.  Great stuff.
