Re: RC: New Foals in Cold Weather
I have two 4 month old Saddlebred/arab cross colts going in winter here in
Saskatchewan. We are also having a mild winter but still we have already
reached minus 30 degrees Celsius for a couple of days and they did just fine.
They are outside with the mares with 10 acres of bush for protection (no
blankets). We could go down to 40 degrees below in the January and I still
did not anticipate a problem.
I'm sure that if your foal has just been born, your weather will not be much
cooler than our past fall (Oct, Nov., Dec) has been and the colts had no
problems.
Horses are amazing as to their ability to adapt to cold weather.
Good luck
