Although there is no direct mention of the quote, the book "The
Performance Mare", by Sharon Smith makes it very clear that mares seem to
tend toward the discussion side. Having ridden many mares and stallions
(I am not too fond of geldings as a rule) I have to say that the version
with "discuss it with a mare" would be my choice. For those who ride
mares, I thoroughly enjoyed The Performance Mare. She lists many
historical references, including the bedouin's preference for mares. She
also helps to explain mare behaviour and how you can minimize it, or take
advantage of it. It is also interesting to note that in Polo (not arena,
the real thing with the large field) mares dominate. Any statistics on
mares vs. the boys in endurance?
