Full Moon Ride
In my case, it was a drive. I came home from a horse council meeting at
9:30 pm and harnessed my Morgan, Billy, to the road cart. Frank lit and
hung two kerosene lanterns at the rear. I put the strap of sleighbells
around Billy, Frank put his Santa hat on, and we trotted and walked
through the streets of our valley. No streetlights, no sidewalks here.
The moon was like a floodlight in the clear skies and the air was cold
but still. Houses still had their lights on, especially those icicle
lights that have caught on so well this year. People came out from
houses to call Merry Christmas, the few cars slowed and stopped, such
fun. Billy was rarin' to go, I had to keep him under a firm hold. We
finally turned into a grassy meadow and I let him trot out -- he must
have thought he was back on a 100-miler. We got home at 11 pm,
unharnessed and put Billy away, and had an eggnog by the fire. A
beautiful night to remember forever. Connie B
