Crockett, regardless of the varied interpretations on the proposal from
various people (all of whom are entitled to their views), the fact
remains that "they" (Roadless div. of USFS) have put this on the fast
track with virtually no time for full, adequate, and public discussion
of the plan. For instance: what definition of "roadless" is the FS
going by, and how will it affect usage by competitive events in the
future, and if competitive events will be continued as at present, will
this be put in writing ??
A deadline of December 20 was not enough time for circulation and
discussion of what was proposed by Clinton only a few weeks ago.
Besides more time, an Environmental Impact Statement needs to be done for
what will have dramatic impact on future recreational uses of the lands
affected by this Level II Roads plan. That is what I wrote in the last
paragraph of my letter, and I stand by what I said.
Roadless today, wilderness tomorrow, and then goodbye equestrians,
find another place to hold your ride! They wanted letters by Dec. 20,
they got mine, altho their fax machine had a Busy signal the entire day
and evening, and my first email was returned because my server botched my
correctly-written address. Thank you for your message, Crockett, and we
can discuss this at length at Reno, perhaps. Regards, Connie B (AERC
Trails Chair)
