No, not the same. Tying up involves disruption of muscle cells, and often
(but not always) involves cramping. It is a serious metabolic problem.
Stocking up is simply edema in the lower legs. It occurs in horses that are
standing around. It can happen after a ride when the legs have undergone
more concussion than they'd "like" or it can occur in sedentary horses simply
confined to a stall. It usually goes away with mild exercise. In some cases
it can be an indicator of other problems, but in many cases it is not a major
cause for concern unless it is extreme or does NOT go away promptly with
mild exercise.
