<< OK RC is getting boring again. ;^} Lets put some real numbers up
here. I just got the blood work from Barney back on our horse JD at the
first day of Silver State. This was a horse that went all 3 days and was
ridden with that in mind. I believe we finished about 30th out of 90 on a
real 50 (darn GPS units) with 4200 feet of climbing. The most obvious item
is his blood glucose went from 93 to 63 to 39 taken , the night before, just
after the first 35 miles and 15 minutes after the finish. There is only one
required hold in this ride and it is at 35 miles for 1 hour. He did not eat
that well at lunch on day 1. This horse is an experienced campaigner now,
1150 miles this season with no pulls. He completed a one day 100 and 3 full
multidays this season. He was carrying about 185 lb.s and he weighs 850
lb.s.
Heat did not seem to be a factor as his Ph stayed in 7.3 range all day.
HCO3 also styaed at 29 to 30. Electrolytes (blood gases done at the ride)
also stayed OK ( I guess) with Na and K varying only slightly at all 3
testings.
Comments or does anybody want results of other parameters?

Nice post! So, the one variable you mentioned that showed the demands of the
ride was glucose--is that your conclusion? It seems logical to me.
