normal horses and substrates
Hey Tom,
Is horse metabolism so different here from rodent/human metabolism?
A person at rest, will often use entirely fats for energy. At a
walk, in a trained individual, I still see them using almost entirely
fats. At a slow jog mostly fats [again this in a trained individual,
an unfit person will be at near max and totally reliant upon carbs at
a slow jog.] What are the RER values in horses during treadmill
exercise at sumbaximal workloads? This info must be out there
somewhere, any one know? Would be a fairly easy study if the lab has
a treadmill and metabolic cart. Now, Tom, carb
supplementation should still prolong their ability to exercise, don't
get upset here.

<<When you say NORMAL horse, you're talking about a horse standing
]still. Fed
lightly on carbs. with fasting level blood glucose. The laboratory
animal. A C Major chord. When the horse goes to work, the 7ths and the
9ths come into play and it's a far more complex progression of
harmonies. >>
