Another good thing for dog owners to remember is that you dogs are safer
kept
tied or in pens. In my neigherborhood I am the only one who has a pen for my
dog, everyone lets their dogs run loose and over the years they have done so
much damage. As many of you know these dogs pose a threat to those on horse

As horse owners, is seems to me that we have an even higher obligation to
safety and common sense. People who let theier animals run lose either from
stupidity, ignorance, or simple neglect SHOULD be held liable for any damage
or injury done. One dumkaufpt told me once that her dog "LIKED to run loose,
and didn't like being tied up!" Well, sheesh, I'll just bet her dog would
like being hit by a car even LESS! Perhaps someone swerving to miss her DOG
and hitting a CHILD on a bike would be sufficient warning. This, by the wya,
is a young woman who routinely has HORSES running lose on the roads, because
"they like to move about lose, too!" Never mind that there is NO GATE keeping
them off the public road.
People who let their animals run loose are not animal lvers - they are
irresponsible animals OWNERS, horses, dogs, whatever. The bigger the animal
the more destructive they can be. People who cannot contain their animals
for WHATEVER REASON have no business having them and should find a GOOD home
for them.
I fully resent having to catch one of two of my neighbors' dogs who had
broken into our property, the first then breaking into our HOUSE and TRASHING
it to the tune of $500, and the other chasing and terrorizing our horses.
What do the owners say? Oh, they were "bored/scared".

I post this message as a friendly reminder to responsible dog owners. I have
just come in from seeing my neighbor shoot two dogs that were dumped here
about a month ago. Right after they were dumped the female had a litter of
puppies in a thickly wood area. The dogs had attacked one of his newborn
calves... again. I will never understand why people dump dogs, all I can
guess is they think they will find another home. I have seen an unumberable
dogs dumped out here only to be hit by cars or starved to death but most are
shot.
Another good thing for dog owners to remember is that you dogs are safer kept
tied or in pens. In my neigherborhood I am the only one who has a pen for my
dog, everyone lets their dogs run loose and over the years they have done so
much damage. As many of you know these dogs pose a threat to those on horse
back (not to mention kids on bikes). A couple of days ago I fell off my horse
because a Great Dane decided we look like lunch. I have been riding for
almost 30 years now and the one constant problem I encounter time and time
again are dogs who turned a pleasant ride into a not so pleasant encounter.
Of course not all dogs are problems but there are pleanty who are.
