Fascinating Facts
Even tho the warm part of our riding season is finished, at
least for most of us, the following fact is fascinating and sobering to us who
regularly ride many miles at a 10 mph pace. I think it's important for us
to think about this even during the cold winter months. No wonder our poor
horses get so sweaty in their winter coats!
"In one hour, a horse traveling 10 miles
per hour generates enough heat to boil 25 gallons of water."
And another tidbit: "Horses do not
yawn from fatigue, as people do, but to stretch their jaws and
tongues" Probably a lot of us knew that one.
