Re: RC: question about mares in heat

Maggie - we bred one of our mares that we leased out to our Nas son last
May or thereabouts. After missing that first heat, she went to her new
home for the next year and a half. She appeared to come in heat the
following cycle, and allowed a gelding in the pasture to jump her for
that "heat" and regularly every 3 weeks or so for the next 4 months.
Right now she is as pregnant looking as a mare can, so I'm pretty sure
she's in foal. This is not a mare who fools around with false
pregnancies, either. We have another mare that would display as if she
was in heat, but wouldn't allow the stallion to mount, usually
displaying for around 2, maybe 3 months or so into the pregnancy. So I
don't think it's all that unusual. Doesn't of course mean that the mare
you're talking about is pregnant, but she might be! Lif
