Sorry, Toni - I guess I misunderstood you to be saying that Shagyas are a type of Arabian (such as Crabbet, CMK or other "types" of Arabians). I do know I have read articles about Shagyas that argue that very thing. But I see that is not what you meant. On the other hand, I think my misunderstanding probably comes from our not using terminology the same way (and doesn't that happen an awful lot!). You wrote "they are obviously an Arabian breed which...." - see, I wouldn't say they were an Arabian breed at all, no matter what the qualifier is. They are perhaps part-Arab, but not a subset of the Arabian *breed* - unless you are using the term "Arabian breed" to mean any and all horses with connections to the Arabian desert. The problem with that usage is that the AHRA & IAHA don't use the term that way & I (and most people, I think) generally accept that definition as the one to use, i.e., there is an Arabian breed, the subsets of which are purebred Arabians only. Non purebreds cannot be part of a subset of purebreds. Anyway, I now understand what you're saying. Thanks for the info.
