I have been riding my little stallion in endurance riding since 1996. He
stands at about 14-3, he has completed 2920 miles to date. He is starting to
compete in the FEI rides and has done four of them this past year. He did
the Pan Am pre-ride and this year, at Pan Am Championship, improved upon his
time by 2 hours. This two hour improvement has occurred in just a year. He
has completed 12-100 mile rides and does very well with them. I am on the
high side of the Middleweight division, and he improves during the time.
Height is a personal preference. The taller they are, the taller they grow
during the 100 mile ride or the multi day event. We all know that they do
grow during the rides. :-))
Conditioning is important, rest and recovery time, along with good feeding
program is also equally important.
Three cheers to everyone who rides any size horse in endurance riding, enjoy
the trails, the competition, and most important enjoy your partner.
Good luck to everyone who is going to a ride this weekend.
