different types of distance riding

I'm sorry you interpreted me that way. I didn't mean it as derisive at
all. To me, CTR has a very different character, and is another 'type' of
distance riding.
I said we had fun at it, and liked it. I'd heard many endurance people be
very derogatory towards it, and was very pleasantly surprised to find them
wrong. I think I must not have said what I meant very well for you to have
gotten this interpretation.

Well, actually, that's one reason we went to this one - this was our
youngest horse's first organized trail ride of any kind. We figured CTR
would be a less intense environment than an endurance ride.
I would, however, argue that CTR is different enough from endurance that
there are a lot of aspects CTR won't prepare you for if you're wanting to
end up in endurance. I do like both types, though at this point I prefer
endurance.
