This is not a reality. Many people, me and all my juniors included, started
on 50's and have done quite well. I started my first junior, who was still 5
at the time and rode a large pony, with a fairly easy 50 miler. The oldest
junior who started with me was Heather Bergantz when she was 11 and as we all
know, she did all right winning the junior national championship one year and
the Haggin Cup at the Tevis this year. You can't make blanket statements
about any kind of rider. We all know about the rider who rode his first
horse at 50 and rode his first ride [The Tevis 100] at age 55.......maryben
