Good grief, just try it...and forget the miles, take it by the hour.
When I'm doing a training ride, we take a full 5 1/2 hours to do our 21
mile loop, and I'm having to squeeze and ask him to go, and there's all
these changes of pace that wear me out. Go to a ride and he's really
"ON", and I can just hit a rythm, there's a great breeze, and I've done
50 miles in 4:19. What's hard about riding a willing horse 4 and a half
hours? Even if you take 7 or 8 hours to do it, I'll bet you ride that
long in training sometimes. What's the big deal? Hundreds are a big
deal. I haven't gotten used to them; they still scare me to death, and
I've talked to people with lots of miles who say it never gets
easy...it's always awful. However, you *can* get used to 50s.
