Good description of the body language, Alice. I'd also like to add that in
order to use the whip properly, you must keep your shoulders square so that
you are heading in the direction you intend to trot, making the whip motion a
dissociated activity going on with your left hand and something that the
horse is not observing. Many folks turn their whole body to use the whip,
which in itself is a "stop" signal to the horse.
