wavy hair pattern

I have this situation, too--big time! The 'waves' are prominent and
pretty much permanent (geez--I sound like pat parelli!) on my guy.
I my case, I am certain they are caused by the horse being quite "rump
high" in conformation. The saddle 'shifts' forward, especially on
downgrades, pushing the skin with it. It has never seemed to cause any
discomfort; however, I can't believe it doesn't indicate a problem, so I
have been trying to fix it. I have been experimenting this year with
'shims' to try to raise the front end, making the back 'level'. So far,
this hasn't worked at all (in fact, it's worse!) because, I think, the
extra padding is causing the girth to be a little looser, increasing the
possibility of movement. Whenever I can get around to it, I'm planning on
trying a crupper--never used one, so this should be interesting. I do
believe the shimming is necessary as well, I just haven't perfected it yet.
As I say, I have never seen any bruising or signs of soreness, but I think
the evidence of the saddle sliding forward must mean the saddle will be
digging in on the downhill. No?
I'm not using an Orthoflex. Don't think it's saddle related in my case.
